The DNA of these historic military designs still pervades IWC’s collection, most prominently in the Big Pilot’s series and the Luxury IWC Pilot’s Mark XVIII Replica Watches, both of which are military-styled, aviation-oriented pieces. Now, IWC have released a set of special editions of these models, the Mark XVIII Heritage and Big Pilot’s Heritage, all available in new materials and equipped with different calibers of varying specification.
Starting with the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Heritage, the new piece is fairly similar to previous Big Pilot’s Watches with the exception of case material, which is now either bronze or titanium, and the inclusion of the very impressive IWC 52110 in-house manufacture caliber. IWC’s automatic winding 52110 features a staggering 168 hour power reserve, Côtes de Genève and perlage finishing, and 31 jewels, all ticking along at 28,800 vibrations per hour inside of a soft iron inner case to resist magnetic fields found in aviation environments. The standard Big Pilot’s 51111 caliber features more jewels at 42 but beats at a significantly slower 21,600 vibrations per hour. Otherwise, Fake IWC Watches the 46.2mm case, signature crown, and vintage inspired leather strap remain similar in style to previous Big Pilot’s.
For those with more regular wrists and bank accounts, IWC Copy Watches have also produced the Mark XVIII in a special Heritage edition. The new IWC Pilot’s Mark XVIII Heritage retains the aviation style dial and hands as well as the modest 40mm case size from previous models. New is the use of titanium as a case material which lends the piece a utilitarian feel as well as a much lighter overall weight. The inclusion of IWC’s 35111 caliber also differentiates this new model from it’s forebears and while it isn’t a totally in-house caliber like those in the Heritage Big Pilot’s, it is still a capable 25-jewel movement based on the Sellita SW300 as opposed to the 21-jewel, ETA 2892 base movement found in the standard IWC Mark XVIII.
The new Cheap Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar Edition “Antoine De Saint Exupéry” is based closely on last year’s Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar Edition “Le Petit Prince” but with a few changes. The Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar Edition “Antoine De Saint Exupéry” comes in a hefty 46.2mm 18k red gold case and retains the large conical screw-in crown that has become a signature of IWC’s Big Pilot’s Knockoff watches.
The big change is on the dial. While watches in IWC’s “Le Petit Prince” collection have a deep and rich blue dial, the “Antoine De Saint Exupéry” watches distinguish themselves by having a rich tobacco brown dial, as we saw in the IWC Pilot’s Copy Watches Double Chronograph hands-on here. Judging from the press photos, the dial seems to match the red gold case nicely. Another notable feature of the dial is the stylized “A” under the annual calendar readouts that represents the author’s name.
At 12 o’clock, you have three apertures that display the month, date, and day. Also, at 3 and 9 o’clock, you have the power reserve indicator and subsidiary seconds respectively. The thick hands and beefy Arabic numeral hour indices feature red gold accents and look to have been generously applied with luminescent material so legibility, whether in the day or night, shouldn’t be an issue. The Big Pilot’s Watch Swiss Made Annual Calendar Edition “Antoine De Saint Exupéry” also comes with a matching brown calfskin strap with white stitching made by leather specialists Santoni.
Powering the Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar Edition “Antoine De Saint Exupéry” is the IWC Caliber 52850, which is visible through a sapphire display caseback. It beats at a standard 4Hz and features a 7-day long power reserve thanks to two mainspring barrels. It also features the latest version of IWC’s Pellaton winding system, which has recently been upgraded with ceramic components to provide years of wear-free operation. It has also been handsomely decorated with Côtes de Genève and blued screws.
Obviously, the Best IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar Edition “Antoine De Saint Exupéry” will appeal most to fans of The Little Prince and admirers of the author. The tobacco brown dial and the red gold case look like a great match and I especially like the watch’s winding rotor that is shaped like a Lightning P-38 plane.
The IWC Portugieser Dark Blue Dials have a sunburst finish and the double sub-dial design further makes them look similar at a glance. The stainless steel case – like previous Portugieser watches – is restrained but casual in design with traditional tapered lugs and a thin bezel. The Portugieser Automatic is the larger of the pair with a 42.3mm bezel and a double stepped case. It is also equipped with a larger fluted crown – but similar in design to the Portugieser Chronograph that has a 40.9mm case.
Rated to 30m of water resistance, each of the new IWC Portugieser Copy Watches is best suited for daily office wear. While the Automatic is equipped with a display back, the Chronograph is not, and I’ll get into why shortly.
Going back to the dial, both Fake IWC Watches have applied Arabic markers and polished, rhodium plated leaf shaped hands which complement the case quite well. The Automatic has a sub-dial at 3:00 that indicates power reserve and another sub-dial at 9:00 for continuous seconds. The date window at 6:00 is hard to miss with its white date wheel standing out against the blue dial.
The caliber 79350, as a modified Valjoux 7750, is a competent movement and offers 42 hours of power reserve at 28,800bph, but it is more of a tool watch movement. What makes this choice even more perplexing is that the IWC Portugieser Automatic US is powered by the caliber 52010, which is an IWC in-house design that offers 7 days of power reserve via two barrels, operating at 28,800bph.
